Sometimes the fun of cycle touring is definately type 2.
Why do I say that it is type 2 fun? My oldest child is finally asleep and Charly and I are currently bracing the tent against a force 10 that is periodically blowing the tent flat and pinning us to the ground.
Our kit, now unwashed since Wednesday, smells like a cross between a cheese maker’s clogs and a decomposing badger. It is bucketing it down so hard that the rain is forcing its way through the flysheet to pool on the ground sheet in large puddles.
But tomorrow we have no deadlines and nowhere to be. I get to spend time with my children talking about the countryside we cycle through and playing I spy. We might even talk about last night’s weather, climate change or why floods happen. Essentially educating our children.
They will, hopefully learn that difficult experiences, both physical and emotional, do pass and beyond will be better times.
I suppose this is the point if the trip.
Looking out onto the Waddensee (the calm before the storm).
Taking the time to explore.
